PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:

Finalmente – th= e winter is over. As we enter Spring, some things are drawing to a close for another year. We have had another very successful polenta dinner season, including = two polenta carbonera dinners (the 2nd one will be May 1st). Many, many thanks to all the dedicated members who devoted their time and l= abor to put these dinners on and to all the people who

support the Club by a= ttending the dinners. They are great social events as well as necessary to our finan= cial stability. Also, our Friday night card league has finished for both pitch a= nd pinochle. Now it’s time for some outdoor activities. Please check on announcements in this edition since the next Stella Alpina will not be issu= ed until August.

I would like to continue to recognize some of our members for their often thankless contributions to our club. Last time it was the polenta dinner calling committee. This edition, it’s those who work on building maintenance. We have a nice facility,= and it takes a lot of attention and upkeep to keep it that way. Our club manage= r, Bill Phillips, does a lot of the coordinating and arranges for contractors = when we can’t handle work ourselves. Many things we are able to handle in-house because we have some talented (or at least willing) members. Louie Nicolini takes care of most of the general maintenance, along with his crew= of Al Frizzi, Jim Maestri and Pete Albrigo. Sid Rodriguez is our resident plum= ber and Arnold Armani takes care of the electrical. Mark Cazzolli takes care of bigger construction, repairs and fixes that require some creativity. When it comes to tracking and protecting our equipment, from tables and chairs to kitchen tools, Mario Capella is the man. As a side note, anyone and everyone who wishes to borrow anything from the Club must contact Mario – no exceptions please. Louie or Jerry Albrigo usually cut the lawn. The Cavedin= es are our resident air conditioner experts. And last, but not least, Christine Sacco does a nice job cleaning. I hope I haven’t missed too many. P.S. Many parts of our building were built by our members – the polenta ro= om, the cookers, sidewalks, etc. Thanks to all who contributed.

On behalf of the Board, have= an enjoyable and safe summer – and by all means come to one of our summer functions or just stop by when we’re open.

ITTONA News

The 2006 ITTONA conve= ntion has now been finalized for New= York City for July 3, 4 and 5, 2006. A couple of details at this point: the hotel selected is the Park Central on Seventh Ave. and 56th Street and rooms have been blocked at a cost of $129 per double room and $159 for concierge level.  We do not have a convention regist= ration cost yet. If anyone is interested in coordinating a bus trip for the conven= tion (not including registrations), please call the Club or let a Bo= ard member know. It would be great to have at least one busload from Solvay.  By the way, our Solvay club is a candidate for the 2008 convention.  We still have some copies of the book Courageous People from the Dolomites. This book not only contains the original version written by Father Bonifacio Bolognani, but the history of the ITTONA, a history of each Trentino club in North America and a biography of Father Bolognani has been added. They are available at our cost of $28 per copy – or make a reasonable offer.

AUXILIARY PRESIDENT MESSAGE:

Dear Auxiliary Member= s,

I’d like to tha= nk all of the ladies who braved the weather to come to our meetings this winter and those who were hostesses for us. We LOVE all the goodies and enjoy the time= we spend playing cards and chatting with each other after the meetings. We as auxiliary members play an important role in the success of the Club. As a p= art of the Club we bring our dedication to preserving what our grandparents wor= ked hard to establish and we offer new ideas and energy to maintain it. We are growing in numbers and invite more of the younger generation to join us. Wi= th the teamwork that we have displayed we can only become stronger and more successful as a Trentini family. I am honored to continue as President of t= he Auxiliary and appreciate all of your input as we continue to support each other. Don’t miss out on your copy of “La Cucina Alpina”,= the 3rd printing of our cookbook. Lisa Campagna and her committee ha= ve put together a new edition of all of the past recipes, with a few more adde= d to it. Merilee Palerino, Dora Capella, and their committee have everything rea= dy for the May banquet… hope to see you all there.  Remember, no meetings after the May banquet, but we’ll all be back on September 7th at 7pm. Don’t forget about the July picnic at Lakeland Park, it’s sure = to be a good time. All the best to all of our members – have a safe and enjoyable summer! See you at the Club!!
