PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:

Buon Anno. I hope everyone had a very enjoyable Christmas and holiday season. As= we start a new year, I would like to briefly report on the past year. We conti= nue to have a strong, viable club with a lot of member participation – polenta dinners, language meetings, cooking classes, Friday cards and golf, picnic, etc. I hope even more of you will find the time to join us in these activities.   We have jus= t made the second of three installments on our donation to the <= /p>

Solvay Library, as well as St. Cecilia’s Church rehabilitation and institute= d a Tyrol Club scholarship fund at Solvay High School. Howeve= r, along with our giving and activities is the reality that finances are a gro= wing challenge. In 2005 we came up a little short of break-even, and with rising energy, taxes, supplies and insurance costs, it won’t get any easier.= In 2006, you may see some cost savings measures. Please bear with us as we try= to provide the same level of activities and service while being as prudent as = we can with our finances. Thank you to all of you for your past and future sup= port , it is truly immeasurable.

Welcome to our n= ewest cook – Biagio Vavala. He conducted a cooking class in January and mad= e a delicious minestra for those who turned out.

Finally, I am ha= ppy to report that we had a very nice visit in November by Dr. Ferrucio Pisoni, President of Trentini nel Mondo, and Graziano Bacca, Consigliere for TnM. T= hey had never visited Solvay, and I think they were impressed with our members = and club. On short notice, we had a nice dinner followed by a luncheon the next day. Both events were attended by 15-25 of our members. Special thanks to J= im Foresti, Hank Antonini, Al Chemotti, Al Salvagno and Ruggero Mazzochi for accompanying our visitors, John Maestri and Mario & Dora Capella for setting up and coordinating the meals, Mike Tanzela for the luncheon and to= all who attended and made his visit enjoyable.

As part of his v= isit, Dr. Pisoni was interested in looking over our facility, as well as others in the area in anticipation of the 2008 ITTONA convention. He seemed very satisfied as we continue to be a strong (and maybe the only) contender for = the 2008 convention. Until then, I hope to see many of you both at our club and= in New York at this year’s convention.

AUXILIARY PRESIDENT

Dear Auxiliary Members as January comes to a close, I would like to first look b= ack and thank our Christmas committees for all of their hard work. Our Children’s Christmas Party committee – Kathy Kaminski, Heather Chemotti, Cathy Savo, Roseann Canastrare, Marguerite Chemotti, Karen McPeak, Nicole Sagarella, and Annette Zawadzki did a fabulous job organizing the party.  We are always grateful= for the time and effort they put into the day, which goes so smoothly. They mad= e 32 boys and girls very happy with games and activities, which was evident by t= he smiles on every face in the room! Santa brought Mrs. Claus with him this ye= ar to brighten up the room even more than usual and together they delivered awesome gifts to everyone. We all hope that they had a safe return to the N= orth Pole and will be able to return again next year. The Auxiliary Christmas pa= rty was also a success. Thank you to my committee – Karen Lotito, Linda Smart, Dora Capella, and Marguerite Chemotti – everything was well do= ne and looked beautiful. Special thanks to Marguerite for booking the musicians…they were very entertaining! Cooking classes continue and L= isa Campagna will be contacting those of us who have signed up for the March cl= ass. If you’re curious as to what the dish will be, give her a call at 488-5314. Remember that this is an election year, so please plan on attendi= ng the April meeting for the nomination of officers and the May banquet for installation – see the flyer for details. Also, be sure to make plans= to attend the convention in NYC in July – we’re hoping for a big turnout and lots of fun! I look forward to seeing everyone at our next meet= ing on March 1st at 7pm.  See you at the Club!

Carole Marascalchi, President
