Founded in 1929, the Solvay Tyrol Club
is located in Solvay, New York and has approximately 350 members. The Club’s purpose,
according to our by-laws, is to promote the stimulation and advancement of the
Tyrolean-Trentini people and to carry forward the
traditions and culture of the Tyrolean-Trentini
people.
The Solvay club has an open
membership policy – candidates for membership need not be of Trentino heritage to join. However, only members of Trentino heritage have voting and governing authority.
Anyone wishing to join must complete a brief application, be sponsored by a
current member in good standing and receive approval by the Club’s Board of
Directors. Annual dues are $30.
The Club has a men’s
membership, consisting of members of both Trentino
and non-Trentino heritage, and a women’s Ladies
Auxiliary. Both groups are active in Club events and promotion of Club
activities and goals.
We have several open polenta
and chicken dinners annually to both promote our native foods and traditions
and to raise revenue to support our club. In addition, there are periodic
polenta carbonera and polenta di
potate dinners open to members only. We are fortunate
to have copper paioli large enough to make polente that can feed up to 100 people each and have many
members who are very skilled in the art of polenta making. Our facility can
seat in excess of 200 people for a dinner.
Our club and bar facilities
are open to members three days per week. The facility is also available for
rental and we have full kitchen, banquet and service capability.
Robert J. Cazzolli, Past
President.
