PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:

Salve. Now that warm weather has returned, I am pleased to report that we have completed another very successful polenta dinner season. That doesn’t happen without the hard work and dedication of many of our members and the = very much appreciated support of all those who faithfully attend. Thank you all. During the off season we will be making polenta for the Relay-For-Life and = the Solvay field days. A special thank you to John ‘Tita’ Maestri, Solvay Iron Works, Marty Pikarsky and those who will be installing two new polenta cookers. The new cookers and materials have been donated so we can = have a little better design and safety in our polenta room.

On May 21st we did a spring cleaning of the Club. While we didnR= 17;t get everything done, but we did manage to give the building exterior and parking lot, the downstairs hall and the farina room a much needed cleaning= . Thank you to Pete Albrigo, Gerry Albrigo, Jim Maestri, Louie Nicolini, Joe Zulber= ti, Karen Lotito, Nancy Bellefeuille, John Cregg, Rich Filosi, Al Frizzi, John Maestri for the good job. And thank you to Mike Tanzella for donating food = for the workers. Next job will be the kitchen and the upstairs hall. We are alw= ays looking for help – from cooking to maintenance to cleaning to bartend= ing. Any interest, contact John Maestri or a Board member.

Thank you also to Steve Cavedine for doing a very nice job in repairing the leaki= ng ductwork for the central air conditioning. It created a lot of cooling prob= lems for us last summer, but we should be in good shape this year. We are also hopeful of insulating the attic this year to help with our rising energy co= sts.

Please make note in this newsletter of a number of events we have planned for this summer and early fall – from golf to picnic to pig roast. You will no= t be disappointed if you can attend one or more of these events – they are very affordable (some are free) and great social gatherings.

I would like to make a special thanks to the womens auxiliary for their gener= ous donation to the clubs building fund, it will surly be put to good use!

Finally, please keep a number of our members who are in ill health and families of t= hose who have had members pass in recent months in your prayers. I usually refra= in from mentioning any deceased by name, but the recent passing of Rosina Cape= lla marks the passing of our oldest member and possibly the oldest Trentino out= side of the province. She would have been 102 this year. Our thoughts and prayer= s go out to Rudy, Giustino and Mario and their families.  Have a safe and very enjoyable sum= mer. The next issue of the Stella Alpina will be early Fall.

Congratulations to Alex Cazzolli, son of John and Sharon Cazzolli, Alex will be representing the Solvay club for a youth exchange in Trentino this July. In return, Alex will be hosting a Trentino youth next year.

AUXILIARY PRESIDENT MESSAGE:

Dear Auxiliary Member= s,

As another year passe= s, I want to send a big thank you to our nominating committee, Ines and Cathy Sa= vo, Irene Salvaterra, and Jeanne Hickok, for all of their hard work and to Mary Helen Rizzuto, Karen Scheirer, Barb and Bev Armani, and Patty Fidler, our committee for the lovely May banquet –– everything was superb!<= o:p>

I also want to thank all of the lad= ies who help out every month during the polenta dinners: our reservation coordinator and callers, the kitchen workers, and all of you who make, deli= ver, and serve the cakes. Also thanks to Lisa Campagna for the cooking classes – and everyone who participates in them! It takes all of us to keep t= his Club running and each time we volunteer or attend an event, we ensure its success! I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the ladies for your continued confidence in my being the Auxiliary President for another t= erm. I am grateful for all of your kind words and support.

Thank you to Janice Todeschini for a job well done as secretary for two terms. I know that even with her ever-growing responsibilities, we will continue to see her at our meetings. I look forward to working with Dora and Marguerite again and I wa= nt to welcome Diane Noffey as our new secretary.

Sadly, I bid a fond f= arewell to Barbara Battaglia, sergeant-at-arms, who passed away in April and to Ros= ina Capella, our most senior Auxiliary member who left us in May.  Both ladies left us with treasured memories and even more hope that our traditions and family ties forever bind us. We will miss you and the friendships that you shared with us. I extend = our sympathies to your families.

Please mark your cale= ndars for the July picnic at La= keland Park and for our September 6 meeting – dinner at 6pm. Expect a call for reservations. = Have a great summer – see you at the Club!

Carole Marascalchi

President
